Examples Of Different Mexican Food Dishes

Mexican food dishes can include a large variety of meats and vegetables, and the use of rice.  People eating at these restaurants can enjoy a variety of entrees.  Culturally, several are designed as single serving type meals and are to be wrapped up in some sort of tortilla.  Most Mexican restaurants will greet the patrons with a bowl of their family recipe salsa served together with fresh baked tortilla chips.  In addition to the chips and the salsa, the customers might order a side of guacamole.  The patrons can snack on the chips as they wait for their main dishes.

Among the many favorite Mexican food dishes, and something that is bound to be available at every such restaurant, is a selection of tacos.  These delicious stuffed tortillas can be made in a number of different ways.  They can either be crunchy or soft shelled, and made with either corn or flour tortillas.  While it might be more traditional for the filling to be beef, it can also be chicken, pork, or shrimp.  Several restaurants offer a fish taco made with creamy cilantro sauce.  The typical taco will be served with a variety of toppings to include shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and grated cheese.  As a patron, other sides can be ordered to accompany the meal.  Some like to add sour cream, pickled jalapenos, and guacamole on their tacos.  Along with the tacos, the full meal is likely served with rice and refried beans.

Another typical choice from the many Mexican food dishes available on the menu is an enchilada.  Enchiladas are a corn tortilla wrapped around meat and spices then covered in an enchilada sauce.  The filling might also have cheese, vegetables, or some combination of the three.  After filling, they are garnished with things like cheese, onions, and sour cream.  These too are usually served with beans and rice when ordered as a meal.  Each restaurant will have their specialty sauces to choose from.  It may be the traditional red sauce or they may serve them with a verde (green) sauce.

Of course, one of the Mexican food dishes that people do not want to pass up if they have an opportunity to have it is flan.  This custard dessert can be made quite simply but is prized by many as one of the most delicious, South-of-the-border desserts out there.  It is typically made in small dishes to be served individually.  Caramelized sugar is used to coat the bottom of the cup.  A blend of sweetened milk and egg is added to the cup.  It is then baked, along with the other ones, in a water bath in the oven.  After cooling, the cups are turned out and the caramel becomes the sauce.  It is placed on a saucer and served with the caramel side up.

Another popular dessert among Mexican food dishes is the tres leches cake.  It is also known as the 'three milks cake'.  This cake is soaked with a mix of milks that makes the cake dense and moist.  It is definitely super sweet to the taste!
