Types Of Mexican Desserts

Mexican desserts can be quite different than what most people are used to when primarily eating American food.  Of course, there will always be the standard chocolate treats everyone knows and loves.  The mark of a good restaurant is their dessert choices and Spanish themed restaurants are no different.  After eating some of the tastiest food ever, people love to indulge in some sweets.  The more options a place has, the more satisfied the customers will be.  More often than not, Mexican desserts will include tortillas, fruit, and chocolate.  If a restaurant sticks with that list of ingredients, their patrons will be completely happy.

One of the more popular food items from this culture is the chimichanga.  This can have several different variations to it.  For the customer’s enjoyment after a meal, they can help themselves to a banana chimichanga.  This has a few parts to it that people just love.  The first part of this wonderful combination is the tortilla shell.  This is a favorite item in the Mexican culture.  Next, there is the banana.  Who doesn’t love a nice banana or other type of fruit in their dessert?  Finally, the cook will take a banana stuffed tortilla and deep fry it.  It is amazing how wonderful some things will taste when they are fried.  To top this dish off, it will be covered with a caramel based sauce.  A lot of Mexican desserts will be served along with ice cream.  The banana chimichanga is no exception.

Now, to venture to the sweeter side of Mexico, there is a traditional treat that will satisfy nearly every sweet tooth.  Many restaurants will offer a perfectly crisped pastry that is lightly covered with sugar and cinnamon.  As said before, this dish will be served with the customer’s choice in ice cream.  This doesn’t involve too many ingredients, but it has become a mainstay with this type of cuisine.

To stay with the sugary theme, there is the Crepas con Carmelo.  Keep in mind that each restaurant may have other names for these Mexican desserts.  That is why it is best for the patron to explain what they are looking for.  This dessert is another easily made, yet thoroughly enjoyed treat.  It consists of a perfectly baked crepe with a delicious caramel sauce poured over it.  This is a delightful combination that will spoil the taste buds.  This is usually accompanied by vanilla ice cream as well.

If this next dish is done right, many customers would choose to eat it instead of ordering dinner off of the menu.  The sopapilla has become a favorite to people who love Mexican food.  This delicious treat is made up of dough and is hollow on the inside while the outside is crisp due to the fact that it is put into a deep fryer for a short period of time.  This pillow-shaped piece of dough is usually served with honey poured onto it.  Many restaurants also serve an extra honey bottle so that the customer can pour as much as they’d like into or on top of the sopapilla.  When it comes to Mexican desserts, this is a classic choice.
